The Hive
In The Hive, the early year educator introduces each child to the skills and qualities necessary to live life in an independent, safe and happy way. The children explore the world through their senses and their own activity. The children partake in a range of daily activities including water play, sand play, play dough, construction and a range of holistic developmental games. We encourage manners, respect for yourself and others and self-care in this room.
Activities are usually organised around interest areas or defined areas. These defined areas allow children to play and explore materials with the guidance of the early years educator either individually or in small groups. Low dividers often separate the areas, but children move freely between them.
The Old Barn
Through our play based curriculum the children are preparing themselves for school, furthering on from ECCE in The Hive. By the end of the term in June, the children will be ready for 'big school', able to put on/off their own shoes, coats and pack their bags.
Continuing to promote manners, respect for yourself and others and self-care in this room. In The Old Barn, the children are further challenged in their daily routine. They will partake in more advanced activities and learn to become more independent, ensuring they can do most personal care things for themselves at this stage. At Buttercup Childcare we take pride in the best practice for early years.
The Loft
In our after school session, the children take part in fun-filled activities such as baking, arts and crafts, and homework support.
Homework Support
At Buttercup Childcare, a period of time is set aside each day for homework. This time is immediately after they arrive from school. Each child will get sufficient time (but not exceeding 40 minutes) to do their homework. Staff will contribute to a quiet relaxed atmosphere during homework time and they will be available to help children with their homework. We recognise the importance of the parent's role in homework support and we encourage them to check work completed, listening to reading again and have an active role in the homework support.
Children are encouraged to participate in group work but are also free to choose their own activities from the wide variety available. More types of activities children are offered include: Art, Library, Sport, Music, Drama, Air Hockey, Pool and Gardening.
The Shelter
The outdoor play area is a world of its own where children can learn through exploring and pretend play. Our new outdoor shelter will act as a class room every day of the week for pre school and after school children. We enjoy bringing our classroom outdoors as much as we can. As part of the curriculum in the early years getting outdoors and exposed to nature is so important. We can learn so much from the outdoors, it is such a healthy and fun activity for the children. The outdoor classroom is structured for multi-purposes use to accommodate any age child.
The importance of play for children’s healthy development is grounded in a strong body of research. As a natural and compelling activity, play promotes cognitive, physical, social and emotional well being, offering the necessary conditions for children to thrive, learn, experience, explore and understand the natural world.
The Garden
Outdoors, we have a lovely mature garden, a fairy corner, bug hotel, chalkboard, water table and a play area including playhouse, swings, slide and digging areas. We have a sandpit, an outdoor classroom and a mud kitchen, for all-year round use outdoors. Team work is evident through regular sports and creative experiences.
